Committee kills bill allowing adult children access to adoption records

(Hartford-AP) _ An effort has fizzled to resurrect a bill allowing adult adopted children to obtain their birth certificates when they turn 21.

The Judiciary Committee voted 24-to-16 to kill the bill Friday amid concerns that it would lead to more abortions. Republican Governor Rell vetoed a similar bill last year, arguing it violated privacy rights of birth mothers who put their children up for adoption believing their identities would remain confidential.

Rell asked lawmakers to draft a bill this session that balances the privacy of birth parents with the desire of adoptee's to seek their birth information.

No offense to all of the cool people who live in CT, because I know there are those, but for the rest of them, esp. those in the legislature, they have rods up their asses so far that they can barely sit down.

Sorry. I'm in a mood today.

That sucks! I think it's bs that open records would lead to more abortion.

And, whose the idiot that came up with the term "adult children" in that article???

what the hell does abortion have to do with opening records?

i say this again, "what a crock!!!"

and people wonder why i detest conservatism.

I wonder what logic and/or studies they are citing, if any, to justify their action or in this case, inaction? Sometimes there just is not rhyme or reason for how they vote. Very sad for the people who represent them. I don't know what correlation there is between adoption records and abortion that can prove any kind of link much less a causal one.
