Public Service Announcement: Don't cash that check

IF, like many people today,

  • you received a cashier's check in the amount of $1,998.00
  • it was from The Commerical & Savings Bank, Millersburg, OH or CFE Federal Credit Union (thanks anon!)
  • the check date is 05/25/2007
  • it is accompanied by a letter from Northwest Financial & Trust Services
  • advising you that you've won at either Reader's Digest, Publishers Clearing House, etc

Don't cash it. You'll have to endure what this guy did.

Please give a call over to Commercial Savings Bank and let them know you want to talk to that nice fraud lady. Their phone number is 800-654-9015

I received the same bullshit letter in the same amount, but drawn on CFE Federal Credit Union. The check sure looks good, but any printer can do that.

I just feel bad for the people I know are going to deposit them in ATM's and then wind up with a whole lot of grief on their part. I am seeing some google referrals on the bank name so if I can spare at least one person a $35 bounced check fee it'll be good.

And yeah, that check looks really good. Watermark, security image you need to hold sideways to see, the whole deal.
