Via AdoptionThreads.com….

A new website that looks pretty interesting is:

Their opening page states:

“Over 1200 adoption agencies and adoption attorneys are rated and reviewed anonymously by adoptive families and birth moms providing unbiased first hand experience.”

I wrote to them making a suggestion that adoptees post too, so that we can report how the agencies that profited off us as infants treat us (and profit off us a second time) when we return trying to get non-identifying information or to start a search. I got a green light response back less than 15 minutes later. Now that’s service.

Anyway check it out, and leave a review of your agency if you’re so inclined. Being a private adoption acquisition myself I’m left out of all the fun. Bummer.

Ah, that's the site that landed me in my hot water. My agency read the review I left about them and popped a cork.

That said, when I contacted the owner about the debacle, he's ALL about free speech. So, kudos to him and his site. Boo to my agency.

I have just been to the site and am quite angry about what I saw.

It seems that adoptive parents are posting in the (birth) mother section to boost the rating of the agency.

How sick is that!

BTW, most of the birth mother reviews were very much in the negative, talking about how some of the agencies misled them and lied to them about their options.

It was pointed out that agencies get very angry and unhelpful should the mother change her mind.

It seems that some things never change.

It makes me sick that adoptive parents are pretending to be (birth) mothers just to make their agencies look better.

Maybe the site owner should check the content of his/her site and move things out of the sections that they do not belong in.

I think the way it works is that all the reviews are combined together, and what the owner did was highlight the reviews by first moms. Maybe if the site grows there will be a way to show both a combined rating and a breakout of ratings by adoptees/first parents/adoptive parents. Also there really is no way to prevent an agency hack from posting a glowing review about their own agency, so there's that too.

The link on the left hand side of the page definitely says "Reviews by birthmothers" - so one would expect only to find (birth)mothers there.

When you click on that link, it definitely says "Adoption Agency reviews from birth mothers" - again, one only expects to see birth mother reviews there, not adoptive parent ones.

It even goes on to state "Glimpse the other side of adoption". There should not be any adoptive parents there at all.

However, there are. The more positive reviews from them, the higher the rating appears to be from birthmothers when that is not the case at all.

All the (birth) mother reviews were very negative.

The site implies that all of the reviews on the birthmother section are only from birthmothers which is very misleading.

They should make it clear that the reviews are mixed whereas right now, it implies that you will only be seeing the birthmother ones, so that you are not gettting a clear picture of what the situation actually is.
